Job Summary
The future of the Lummi Nation depends on the wellness and education of our
youth, in both the western sense, and in accordance with Lummi traditions and culture. The Lummi
Child Welfare (LCW) Program is responsible for meeting that need for the Children who are in the
care of the Lummi Nation.
The Lead Social Worker directs and supervises all social work activities of Social Workers within
their supervision. The employee functions as the first-line professional lead, setting and monitoring
compliance with professional standards of employees under their supervision. The employee
provides guidance and direction pertaining to inter-government relationships and directly works
with the Child Welfare Program Manager to resolve any complaints related to Social Workers and
the cases they manage.
The Lead Social Worker works within the policies of the Child Welfare Program, Title 8 of the
Lummi Code of Laws, Federal Title IVE-B and IV-E, and orders of the Lummi Court in each case.
The Lead Social Worker exercises considerable independent judgment to adapt and apply the law
and policies to specific situations. The work requires knowledge of the policies, procedures, and
regulations of The Lummi Child Welfare Program and of other LIBC and Washington State service
agencies LCW clients work with. The Lead Social Worker is a first line supervisor and is expected
to properly apply supervisory techniques, personnel policies, and procedures.
