Job Summary
This full time (40 hours per week) benefited; position has been developed in alignment
with the LIBC declaration of an Opioid Emergency. The LIBC requires a coordinated approach towards
tackling community drug problems and developing a long-term drug prevention strategy. The overall goal is
to promote the health and wellness of the community and mitigation of drug harms. The Indian Child
Welfare Registered Nurse (ICWRN) plays an integral role towards this aim through supporting and
coordinating health services with families’ children and youths referred to the Lummi Child Welfare
Department who screen in for formal intervention, and those referred to preventive services. The goal is to
strengthen preventive responses at the earliest opportunity for children who have been exposed to adverse
childhood experiences (ACES), or at risk of these absent mitigation supports. The incumbent will undertake
health screenings and implement health care coordination, ICW health case management and education
activities that foster safer families and parenting to promote familial engagement, improved quality of life,
health equity, and wellbeing for the whole family unit. The ICW RN will act as nurse consultant to ICW
Social Workers to guide decision making for health considerations regarding placements of children. The
post holder will provide children’s health reports in Tribal Court closed sessions in confidential child welfare
proceedings when indicated. The position requires working with a cross representation of various service
departments within the Lummi Nation, regionally and out of state. Incumbent will lead the development of
the nursing policies and procedures for the child welfare program. The ICWRN is field based and situated
within the Lummi Children’s Services department. The ICWRN must comply with HIPAA and other privacy
regulations and policies, maintaining confidentiality at all times. Candidates must have reliable transportation
to drive between family meeting sites, foster homes, youth in-patient facilities, clinics, and hospitals. The
position holder will be required to participate in any relevant Lummi Nation, Tribal, State or Federal partner
training, meetings, and provide updates to LIBC on the progress of the pilot when requested. Travel out of
state may be required with this position.
