Job Summary
The Registered Nurse is a part-time position responsible for routine training and oversight of Medication Aide, administering medications according to doctors' orders and providing clinical supervision as directed by state regulation. Will also work with home care aid staff in assessments, auditing med carts, incident reports, medication administration records (MAR), and negotiated care plans (NCP) for accuracy and compliance. The registered nurse delegator decides the appropriate task based on the nursing process elements: ASSESS, PLAN, IMPLEMENT, and EVALUATE. Analyze the complexity of the nursing task and determine the required training or additional training needed by the nursing assistant or home care aide task to accomplish the task. The registered nurse delegator identifies any other nursing assistant or home care aide training required before the delegation. The registered nurse delegator ensures that the nursing assistant or home care aide can properly and safely perform the task to be delegated. The nursing assistant or home care aide can properly and safely determine the job to be empowered. Document the rationale for delegating or not delegating nursing tasks in the patient's record. The registered nurse delegator assesses the potential risk of harm for the individual patient. Delegation requires the registered nurse delegator to teach the nursing assistant or home care aide how to perform the task, including return demonstration or another method of verification of competency as determined by the registered nurse delegator. The registered nurse delegator evaluates the patient's responses to the delegated nursing care and any modification of the nursing components of the patient's plan of care. The administration of medications may be delegated at the discretion of the registered nurse delegator, including insulin injections. The registered nurse delegator provides the home care aide with written directions to an individual patient. The registered nurse delegator supervises and evaluates the performance of the home care aide, including direct observation or another method of verification of competency of the nursing assistant or home care aide. The registered nurse delegator reevaluates the patient's condition, the care provided, the home care aide's capability, the task's outcome, and any problems.
