The ESA Coordination program seeks to coordinate Lummi actions directed at recovery of ESA listed stocks limiting Lummi fisheries and speed the delisting process by identifying best available science and implementation of the federal trust responsibility to protect treaty reserved rights.
The Lummi approach builds on the cultural respect for the connectedness of all elements of the ecosystem. Salmon require a healthy forest to ensure clean, cool water and key habitat in the rivers and a healthy marine ecosystem to support the abundance and diversity of the stocks.
While Lummi has not been responsible for the decline of listed stocks, we will lead the delisting effort.
