Mission Statement

The mission of the Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) division is to defend the Lummi tidelands from the harmful effects of all aquatic invasive species. The AIS’s effort supports Lummi Natural Resource’s goal to protect and preserve “Our Sche Lang en,” the Lummi Nation’s traditional way of life, the tidelands, and fisheries. It further ensures that efforts to enhance habitats within our treaty-protected, Usual and Accustomed (UA) fishing territory will prevent invasive species from destroying salmon estuary habitat, from preying upon native shellfish such as juvenile clams and oysters, and from competing with young Dungeness crabs. Paramount is the Tribe’s effort to control and drive European green crabs (EGC) toward functional eradication.
