Invasive European Green Crab Team

Shawn T. Evenson

Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator

Shawn T. Evenson

Shawn is a U.S. Army veteran with over ten years of leadership experience, and a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and a minor in Geology. His degree track was Landscape Ecology and Biogeography, with an emphasis on remote sensing and environmental-geographic information systems (GIS). In his position with the Department of Integrative Biology at the Brackenridge Field Laboratory at The University of Texas at Austin, Shawn used a hyperspectral sensor to study invasive plants and to collect samples and measurements of various terrestrial species. He compiled and analyzed data for senior scientists on his team, and Shawn presented annual reports with recommendations for invasive species control and eradication to landowners and ranch managers. As a result, Shawn has enhanced his project management capabilities and invasive species ecology skills. In addition, he has gained solid scientific knowledge, expertise and experience while effectively and respectfully communicating with colleagues, project stakeholders and the public.

At LNR, Shawn's primary duties are coordinating the Lummi Nation's emergency response to invasive European green crab (EGC). From 2022 onward, he will play a key role in forming intergovernmental partnerships, establishing regional collaborations, and securing emergency funding during the environmental crisis. Shawn will also oversee the LNR AIS Team, which has, out of necessity, become one of the most effective technical units in the multi-agency race to contain EGC within the Salish Sea.
