Apply for Child Support Services

The Lummi Nation Child Support Program provides child support and parentage services at no cost to applicants.

Parents do not have to be enrolled Lummi Nation members to request services. Eligibility and jurisdiction depend on the children, parents, residence, tribal affiliation, existing court orders, and other facts of the case.

Program staff will review each application and determine whether the Lummi Nation Child Support Program can open the case or whether assistance from another tribal, state, or child support agency is appropriate.

Staff may provide general information but do not represent either party and do not assist in other family-law proceedings.

LNCSP does not provide legal representation or assistance with divorce, child custody, probate, debt, dependency, housing, adoption, guardianship, property division, or other legal matters outside parentage and child support.

Important Eligibility Information

• Parents do not have to be enrolled Lummi Nation members to apply.
• Services may be available when a child is Lummi or eligible for enrollment.
• Applicants may live outside the Lummi Reservation.
• Cases may involve members of other tribes.
• Existing orders from another jurisdiction may be handled through a transmittal process.
• There is no application fee.

Jurisdiction is reviewed separately for parentage and child support matters.

Parentage jurisdiction is addressed under Lummi Code of Laws 11.05.030. Child support jurisdiction is addressed under Lummi Code of Laws 11.06.020.

Depending on the type of case and the facts involved, jurisdiction may include enrolled or enrollment-eligible Lummi children, parents, legal custodians, tribal members, families living on the Lummi Reservation, or persons with other legally significant connections to the Lummi Nation.

Program staff review jurisdiction after receiving an application and supporting documents. Submitting an application does not guarantee that Lummi Tribal Court has jurisdiction.

When another jurisdiction is better able to handle the matter, staff may refer or transmit the case to the appropriate tribal, state, or other child support agency. View the Lummi Code of Laws .

1. Download or obtain an application.
   Download the application below or obtain a printed copy from the Child Support Department.
2. Complete the application.
   Complete every section that applies to your situation and provide accurate information about yourself, the children, and the other parent.
3. Sign the application by hand.
   Electronic signatures are not currently accepted.
4. Attach supporting documents.
   Include copies of the documents that apply to your case.
5. Submit the application.
   Submit the application in person, by mail, by fax, or by email. Please call (360) 312-2235 for current email submission instructions.
6. Wait for program review.
   Program staff will review the application and contact you if additional information or documentation is needed.

• Birth certificates for all children included in the application.
• Washington driver license or state identification card.
• Tribal enrollment documentation for parents and children.
• Social Security cards.
• Existing child custody orders.
• Existing child support orders.
• Parentage acknowledgments or parentage orders.
• Other relevant court orders.

Contact the program if a document is unavailable. Missing documents may delay review, but staff can explain what additional information may be accepted.

1. Program staff review the application and supporting documents.
2. Staff determine whether additional information is required.
3. Jurisdiction and eligibility are reviewed based on the facts of the case.
4. The applicant may be contacted by an Intake Specialist or assigned case manager.
5. The matter may be opened by LNCSP or referred to another appropriate child support agency.

Walk-ins are accepted during normal office hours, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. An Intake Specialist can help applicants understand and complete the application.
