Skookum-Edfro Instream Restoration

The Skookum-Edfro Design project is located between river miles 12.9 and 15.5 on the main stem of the South Fork Nooksack, in Acme, Washington (Whatcom County)

Primary goal

The goal of the Skookum-Edfro Design project is to restore salmonid spawning, rearing and holding habitat in order to recover self-sustaining salmonid runs to harvestable levels by addressing limiting factors of temperature and habitat diversity and quantity in the reach.

Project objectives:

1. Increase key habitat quality and diversity by creating primary pool habitat units within five years through the placement and enhancement of engineered logjam structures.

2. Increase thermal refugia for salmonid species by creating up to eleven primary pool habitat units within five years in areas of cool water refuge through the placement of habitat structures.

3. Improve cover and roughness along 1,390 feet upstream of the Saxon Bridge for migrating salmonids.
