Oil Spill Response
The Water Resources Division provides leadership and organizational support for the Lummi Nation Oil Spill Response Team.
The Team is comprised primarily of staff from the Lummi Natural Resources Department and the Lummi Nation Police Department. In preparation for an oil spill response, the Water Resources Division has provided the team members with safety classes required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and hopes to return to 'hands-on' drills this year. Members of the Team also participate in one or more table-top drills each year either internally or with one of the refineries that are located near the Reservation.
The oil spill prevention strategies and oil spill response capabilities of the Lummi Nation are described in the Oil Spill Prevention and Response Plan (available in the Available Documents). Below is the latest LNR Environmental Emergency Notification List, and the Lummi Nation Spill Prevention and Response Capability Development 2022 Annual Synthesis Report.
